Feed My Starving Children Returns Oct. 11-14

The goal for this event is to pack 700,000 meals to help starving children around the world, according to a news release provided by the Warsaw MobilePack. Volunteers will sign up for two-hour shifts where they will scoop, measure, weigh, seal, label and box ingredients for nutritious mannapacks. These scientifically formulated meals will provide hunger relief for malnourished children around the world, the release states. The mannapacks are then shipped through FMSC partners to 70 different countries around the world to areas of greatest need to help impact those who suffer from malnutrition.
According to event chair Megan Stone, “Families, church groups, businesses and organizations are invited to participate. There will be a job for everyone ages 5 to seniors. Online registration will open in September. Volunteers will register for the evening public sessions. We will offer a corporate challenge for business sponsors on Thursday afternoon. We are excited to also engage over 1,400 Warsaw Community Schools students to the daily sessions to be a part of the hands-on mission experience which will serve our global neighbors.”
Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert stated, “In Warsaw Community Schools, our mission is to inspire and equip all students to continuously acquire and apply knowledge and skill while pursuing their dreams and enriching the lives of others. Being a host site for our community and active participation by our students and faculty in Feed My Starving Children is a living example of our mission in action. Our school community is stronger, more empathetic and able to see how enriching others brings a community together for good. As Warsaw Community Schools superintendent, I see FMSC as a vital part of our school community.”
This will be the first time for the event to be hosted at WCHS TRAC. This state-of-the-art facility will provide dynamic space for this high-energy event for clubs, teams and organizations to participate, according to the news release.
FMSC implements a unique and highly effective model. Communities fundraise to pay for the ingredients while also providing volunteers to pack the food. Meals are then shipped through non-governments organizations in 70 different countries around the world.
Currently, FMSC is responding to needs both in Ukraine and around the world. FMSC is coordinating efforts with their network of partners in Eastern Europe. They have committed to ship 4.5 million meals (so far) to Ukraine and Eastern Europe while still providing the meals promised to partners around the globe, the news release states.
FMSC is ready to produce these meals, but help is needed to fund them. Each meal costs 24 cents; $88 will feed a child for an entire year. The financial goal to pack 700,000 meals is $168,000. The Warsaw MobilePack announced that it is half way to its goal of having raised $84,000 so far.
