Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/19

Mishawaka at Warsaw
WARSAW – A seventh inning rally secured Warsaw a third place finish in the Northern Lakes Conference Thursday. The Tigers defeated Mishawaka 5-4 to improve their record to 14-9, and finish the NLC season with a 9-5 mark.
Trailing 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers rallied for three runs, capped off by a walk-off, two-run base hit by Austin Polk. Josh Shapiro led the team in hits with two, scoring a run in the process. Shapiro also started the game for Warsaw, striking out four in four innings.
Warsaw hosts the Tiger Tournament Saturday morning.
Triton at Caston
FULTON – Triton was blitzed early on Thursday, giving up 14 runs in the first two innings in a 15-1 loss to Caston. The Trojans are now 2-19, 1-13 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Dominic Smith led Triton with two hits, one for extra bases, and drove in the team’s lone run. He drove in Zak Greer, who also had a base hit.
Triton has a road doubleheader against Argos Saturday morning.
Softball
Tippecanoe Valley at Manchester
NORTH MANCHESTER – Tippecanoe Valley picked up a dominant conference win on the road Thursday, defeating Manchester 14-0. The Lady Vikings are now 17-7, 7-2 in the Three Rivers Conference. Manchester falls to 6-16, 3-6 in the TRC.
It was a massive game for Corinna Stiles, who hit two home runs, had three hits and drove in seven runs. Molly Moriarty also had a big day, hitting a home run as well to finish with four RBIs.
Tippecanoe Valley and Manchester both begin the sectional tournament Monday, with Valley taking on Rochester and Manchester playing Lewis Cass.
Warsaw at Mishawaka
MISHAWAKA – Warsaw struggled to get its offense going in a 6-0 loss to Mishawaka Thursday. The Tigers are now 2-23, 1-13 in the NLC this spring.
Makayla Holder led Warsaw with two hits.
Warsaw begins sectional play Wednesday when the Tigers take on Concord.
Boys Track
Warsaw/Wawasee/Lakeland Christian at Goshen Sectional
GOSHEN – It was a memorable day for Warsaw at the Goshen Sectional Thursday, as the team qualified for regionals with a third place finish. A plethora of individual athletes qualified as well, including 13 for the first time.
Jeremy Johnson remained undefeated in the 400m on the season, earning himself a sectional championship. Morgan Johnson will be a busy man at regionals next week after qualifying in three events, including sectional championships in the Pole Vault and 4x400m relay. Tucker Curtis also qualified for the pole vault with a top-3 finish.
Regionals begin Thursday at Goshen.
