Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/17

Baseball

Wawasee at Penn

MISHAWAKA – Wawasee struggled to get going offensively against a tough Penn side Tuesday night, losing 7-1. The Warriors are now 7-14 this season.

Grant Brooks got on base three times, getting a base hit as well as walked twice. Brooks stayed busy on the basepaths, swiping three bags. The Warriors only managed three hits on the day. Kaleb Salazar went four innings, giving up four runs.

Wawasee has a nonconference game against Churubusco Friday.

Caston at Triton

BOURBON – Triton dropped its fourth straight game Tuesday, falling 10-0 to conference foe Caston. The Trojans are now 2-18, 1-12 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.

Triton was only able to manage three base runners on the day. Joey Borntrager and Lucas Kaufman both had a base hit.

Triton finishes a home and home with Caston Thursday, when the Trojans travel to Fulton.

Softball

Warsaw at Elkhart

ELKHART – Warsaw was unable to keep up with the offensive output of Elkhart Tuesday night, losing 14-4 on the road. The Tigers are now 3-21 this spring.

Lauren Eastwood drove in two of Warsaw’s four runs in the game. She finished 1-3, reaching twice. The Tigers had seven hits on the day, all singles.

Warsaw travels to Mishawaka to take on the Cavemen Thursday.

Triton at Winamac

WINAMAC – Triton was on the losing side of a conference battle with Winamac, falling 9-3 for its second straight loss. The Lady Trojans are now 5-15, 1-6 in the HNAC.

Shade Trent had two hits and two RBIs for Triton. Lena Doll led all Lady Trojan hitters with three hits.

Triton’s next game comes next Thursday, as the team awaits its sectional opponent.

Girls Track

Manchester/Tippecanoe Valley/Whitko at Bremen Sectional

BREMEN – Three local area schools traveled to Bremen with a trip to regionals on the line. No teams advanced, but some individual athletes qualified to advance. The highest finish was Whitko in fourth place. Manchester finished in fifth and Tippecanoe Valley in seventh.

Whitko had three athletes advance, two in multiple events. Emerson Harper finished in second in both the long jump and 200m dash to qualify for both. Gwen Howard won the shot put and placed third in the 400m dash. Nadia Rhoades placed second in high jump.

Chesnee Miller was Tippecanoe Valley’s lone qualifier. Miller finished third in both the long jump and 800m, setting a school record in the latter event with a time of 2:29.99.

Boys Golf

Tippecanoe Valley/Wabash at Northfield

WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley finished in second place in a three-way match with Wabash and Northfield Tuesday. The team shot a 179 on the day.

Greg Miller led all Valley players with a 40. Close behind him were Ethan Young and Eli Love, each with a 46.
