Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/11

NorthWood at Warsaw
WARSAW – A huge third inning broke the game open for Warsaw, and the team never looked back in an 11-3 victory over NorthWood Wednesday. The Tigers are now 9-7, 5-4 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Warsaw scored seven runs in the third inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Six players registered an RBI in the inning, with Logan O’Malley driving in two on a single. Josh Shapiro got the win for the Tigers, striking out seven in four and a third innings pitched.
Warsaw takes on Northridge Friday night.
Northridge at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Wawasee hung tough but was unable to secure a win against a very tough Northridge side Wednesday night, falling 9-8. The Warriors are 6-12 this season, 3-8 in the NLC.
Grant Brooks had a fantastic game, driving in three runs on two hits, a double and a triple. The Butler commit also scored three runs. Hunter Fiedeke drove in two runs on two hits.
The Warriors have a road game against Plymouth Friday.
Editor’s Note: In yesterday’s paper, the recap of the Wawasee-Mishawaka game had an error. It was Maddux Everingham, not his brother Myles, who drove in three runs for Wawasee.
Tippecanoe Valley at Southwood
WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley picked up a conference win over Southwood Wednesday, winning 4-2. The Vikings are now 4-8 this spring, 2-4 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Tippy Valley used the long ball to perfection in this one, with all four runs being driven in by home runs. Braxton Davis hit two for three RBIs, ad DJ Estep added a solo shot. Estep also gave up two runs in five innings, striking out three.
The Vikings are back in action Saturday at the CMA invite.
Whitko at Northfield
WABASH – Whitko was unable to muster up enough offense to compete with Northfield Wednesday, falling 7-1 on the road. Whitko is now 5-11, 0-6 in the TRC.
The lone Wildcat run was scored in the first inning on a Max Platt solo home run. Whitko scattered five singles across the board as its only offense for the rest of the game.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday against Columbia City.
Manchester at North Miami
DENVER. Ind. – Manchester picked up its second straight victory and moved to above .500 in conference play with a 8-5 win over North Miami Wednesday. The Squires are now 5-9, 4-3 in the TRC.
Manchester will look to extend its winning streak to three Friday, but faces a tough test in 3A No. 8 ranked Heritage.
Softball
NorthWood at Warsaw
WARSAW – The Tigers staged a late comeback that was inevitably thwarted by NorthWood Wednesday night as the team lost 9-7 in extra innings. Warsaw is now 3-16, 1-10 in the NLC.
Trailing 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers rallied for three runs to tie the game. But the Panthers would plate two in the top of the eighth, and Warsaw was unable to answer. Taylor Myers had two runs driven in and a run scored. Natalya Holder led the team in hits with three, also adding an RBI.
Warsaw takes on Northridge Friday night.
Wawasee at Northridge
MIDDLEBURY – Wawasee fought hard against a tough Northridge side but was unable to get any runs across the board in a 1-0 road loss Wednesday. The Warriors are now 6-12, 3-6 in the NLC.
Wawasee is back at home Friday against Plymouth.
Tippecanoe Valley at Southwood
WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley got back to its winning ways with a 10-2 victory over Southwood Wednesday. The Lady Vikings are now 14-6, 5-2 in the TRC.
Brayden Baney scored two runs and drove in two more on two hits, one of them being a home run. Corinna Stiles and Abby Bowers both drove in two runs on two hits.
Tippecanoe Valley is at the Central Noble Round Robin on Saturday.
Whitko at Northfield
WABASH – Whitko picked up a conference win over Northfield Wednesday, winning 7-4 on the road. The Lady ‘Cats are now 5-10, 2-5 in the TRC.
With the score knotted at four after seven innings, Whitko hung a three spot on the board in the eighth to secure the victory.
Maddie Dafforn had two RBIs in the game, while also pitching a complete game and striking out 13 hitters. Ella Walter had two hits and a run batted in.
Whitko is back in action Friday at East Noble.
Manchester at North Miami
DENVER, Ind. – Manchester dropped its fourth straight game Wednesday, falling 10-0 to North Miami. The Lady Squires are now 4-13, 2-4 in the TRC.
Manchester was held hitless in the four-inning contest.
The Lady Squires are back in action Saturday at Warsaw’s Lady Tiger Tournament.
Girls Tennis
Whitko at Fort Wayne Wayne
FORT WAYNE – Whitko continued what has been a very strong season with a 5-0 victory over Wayne Wednesday night.
Abbi Frank was perfect in her No. 3 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Anna Arter had a great showing in No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1.
Manchester at Peru
PERU, Ind. – Manchester was unable to come away with a conference victory Wednesday night, falling 5-0 to TRC foe Peru.
Delani Henderson and Hailey Krom battled in their No. 2 doubles match, but eventually fell 5-7, 6-3, 4-6.
