Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/8

Plymouth at Warsaw
WARSAW – Warsaw dropped a heartbreaker at home Monday night, falling 8-7 to conference rival Plymouth. The Tigers are now 7-7, 4-4 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
It was a big day for Sam Justice, who had two hits for three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the fifth that jumpstarted a four run inning. Kyle Showley started for Warsaw, giving up three runs and striking out seven over six innings of work. Plymouth rallied for a five run comeback in the seventh, and scored the winning run on an error in the ninth.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday when they take on NorthWood.
Wawasee at NorthWood
NAPPANEE – Wawasee finished off a victory and suffered a loss Monday at NorthWood. Making up a suspended game from earlier in the season, the Warriors picked up a 9-4 win. Following that contest, NorthWood bounced back to take the following contest 10-5. The Warriors are now 5-11, 2-7 in the NLC.
Wawasee attempted to stage a late comeback with four runs in the final three innings, but couldn’t get out of an early hole. Grant Brooks accounted for four of the five Warrior runs, driving in two on two hits and scoring two himself.
Wawasee is back in conference action Wednesday against Mishawaka.
Tippecanoe Valley at Maconaquah
BUNKER HILL – Tippecanoe Valley was on the wrong end of a high scoring result against conference foe Maconaquah, losing 8-6. The Vikings are now 3-7 this season, 1-4 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Annakin Pettit and Cameron Manuel led the Vikings in hits with two apiece. Manuel also drove in a run and stole two bases.
Tippecanoe Valley has a road game against Southwood Wednesday.
Manchester at Peru
PERU, Ind. – Manchester needed only six innings to defeat Peru Monday, winning 10-0. The Squires are now 4-9 and 3-3 in the TRC this spring.
Manchester will try to make it two in a row Wednesday at North Miami.
Whitko at Southwood
WABASH – Whitko remained winless in conference play after a 6-1 loss at the hands of TRC foe Southwood Monday. The Wildcats are now 5-10, 0-5 in conference.
Whitko will try to pick up that first conference win Wednesday at Northfield.
Softball
Warsaw at Plymouth
PLYMOUTH – Plymouth avenged an early season loss to Warsaw with a 11-1 victory in six innings Monday night. The Tigers losing streak extends to eleven while the team falls to 3-14, 1-8 in the NLC.
Makayla Holder led Warsaw in hits with two. The lone Tiger run was driven in by Kendyll Landis on a sacrifice fly.
Warsaw takes on NorthWood Wednesday.
NorthWood at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – It was a high scoring affair that saw Wawasee finish on the wrong side as NorthWood won the game 16-13. The Warriors are now 6-11 this season, 3-5 in the NLC.
Elizabeth Miller and Evelyn Duncan both had huge days for Wawasee. Both players had two hits, with Miller driving in four runs and Duncan driving in three. Laney Gross had three hits and drove in two.
Wawasee plays its next game Wednesday at Northridge.
Tippecanoe Valley at Maconaquah
BUNKER HILL – Tippecanoe Valley dropped its conference matchup with Maconaquah Monday, falling 5-2. The Lady Vikings are now 13-6 this spring, 4-2 in the TRC.
The Lady Vikings were only able to manage three hits in the game, two by MacKaylie
Costello. Macy Kirchenstien pitched the final three innings of the game, giving up just one hit and no runs.
Tippy Valley will look to get back in the win column Wednesday against Southwood.
Manchester at Peru
PERU, Ind. – It was a tough contest for Manchester Monday night, as the team fell 16-1 on the road to Peru. The Lady Squires are now 4-11, 2-3 in the TRC.
The lone Manchester run was scored by Lauren Barrett, who had a hit in two at bats. Karsyn Kamphues hit a double.
The Lady Squires are back in action Wednesday against North Miami.
Whitko at Southwood
WABASH – Whitko picked up its first conference win of the season with a 14-4 victory over Southwood Monday. The Lady ’Cats are now 4-9, 1-5 in the TRC.
Whitko spread out its scoring, with eight players recording a run batted in and four players recording two. Cassidy Skinner finished a double short of the cycle, while Madison Cripe picked up four hits.
Whitko takes on Northfield Wednesday.
Triton at Culver Community
CULVER – Triton picked up its second consecutive win Monday with a 14-4 victory over Culver Community. The Trojans are now 4-11 this spring, 1-3 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Triton is back in action Thursday against Caston.
Girls Tennis
Manchester at Tippecanoe Valley
AKRON – Manchester came away victorious with a conference win over Tippecanoe Valley Monday, winning the match with a 5-0 sweep.
Warsaw at Goshen
GOSHEN – Warsaw picked up another conference win, this time against Goshen with a 4-1 victory Monday. The Tigers are now 10-3, 6-1 in the NLC.
Addie Lind picked up a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory in her No. 1 singles match. Regan Brouwer picked up a hard fought 6-4, 7-5 victory in No. 3 singles.
The Tigers start NLC Championship tournament play Wednesday at Plymouth.
Maconaquah at Whitko
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko picked up a conference win over Maconaquah Monday, winning 4-1.
Anna Arter had a very tough No. 1 singles match. After dropping the first set 5-7, she won the next two 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 to secure a well earned victory. Kylie Fugett made quick work of her No. 2 singles opponent, winning 6-4, 6-2.
