Warsaw at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – It took a full nine innings for Warsaw to come away with a conference win over Wawasee Wednesday, as the Tigers took a 2-1 win in extras. Warsaw is now 7-6, 4-3 in the Northern Lakes Conference. The Warriors fall to 3-10, 1-6 in the NLC.
The story of the game was the strong pitching on both sides. Warsaw’s Josh Reihl started the game for the Tigers, going five innings and striking out seven. Wawasee’s starter, Ty Brooks, went eight innings, striking out eight and allowing just one hit.
Kaleb Salazar led Wawasee with two hits, while three Warsaw hitters had a hit apiece. Austin Polk drove in a run for the Tigers.
Both teams face off against conference opponents Friday. Warsaw hosts Goshen, while Wawasee hosts Mishawaka.
Manchester at Rochester
ROCHESTER – Manchester picked up a conference win over Rochester Wednesday, with the Squires coming out on top 6-1. Manchester is now 3-8, 2-3 in the Three Rivers Conference.
The Squires started their scoring early and never let up, adding runs in each of the first five innings. Manchester has a doubleheader Saturday against DeKalb.
Triton at South Bend Academies
SOUTH BEND – Triton picked up its first win of the season Wednesday in a 21-1 thumping of nonconference foe South Bend Academies. The Trojans are now 1-12 this season.
It was a huge day for Jacob Pitney, who got on base four times with three walks and a hit. He had four RBIs and two runs scored. Pitney also threw two innings on the mound, striking out five. Nine Trojan players tallied an RBI, with four driving in multiple runs.
Triton takes on Winamac in a conference doubleheader Saturday.
Softball
Wawasee at Warsaw
WARSAW – Wawasee pulled out a victory in a high scoring affair against Warsaw Wednesday, winning 12-8. The Warriors move their record to 6-10, 3-4 in the NLC. Warsaw drops to 3-12, 1-7 in the NLC.
The two teams combined for a total of 28 hits. Brooke Catron had a two RBI single for Wawasee. She would finish with four RBIs on the day. Three Warriors players had three hits. Makayla Holder led the Tigers in hits with three.
Warsaw travels to Goshen Friday evening while Wawasee hosts Mishawaka.
Whitko at Tippecanoe Valley
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley emerged with a conference win over Whitko Wednesday, taking the game 12-7. The Lady Vikings move to 13-5, 4-1 in the TRC. The Lady ‘Cats fall to 3-9, 0-5 in the TRC.
Tippy Valley’s Molly Moriarty hit yet another home run in the first inning, bringing her career total to ten. She now holds the school record for most home runs. Moriarty would finish with three hits and two RBIs, scoring four runs in the process.
Both Brooke Wall and Ella Walter would have three hits for Whitko. Cassidy Skinner had two hits and two runs batted in.
Tippecanoe Valley plays Maconaquah Monday, while Whitko takes on Oak Hill Friday.
Manchester at Rochester
ROCHESTER – Manchester moved to .500 in conference play with a 9-6 victory over Rochester Wednesday. The Lady Squires are now 4-9, 2-2 in the TRC.
Seven different Manchester players had hits, with five of them having multiple. Emma Evans was one of the five Lady Squires with two hits, and she led the team in RBIs with two.
Manchester travels to South Adams Saturday.
Boys Track
Warsaw/NorthWood at Plymouth
PLYMOUTH – Warsaw wrapped up its regular season with two more conference wins over Plymouth and NorthWood Wednesday. The Tigers are now 8-0, 7-0 in the NLC. This is the first undefeated dual meet season for the Tigers since 2017.
Seventeen different Warsaw athletes set personal records in the competition. Warsaw hosts the NLC Championships Tuesday.
Boys Golf
Wawasee at Tippecanoe Valley
ROCHESTER – Wawasee took a victory over Tippecanoe Valley at the Round Barn golf course Wednesday, winning 169-181. Wawasee is now 3-1.
Wawasee’s Jay Fininson and Tippy Valley’s Greg Miller had the best scores of the day, with each athlete shooting a 40. Jay Fininson of the Warriors was not far behind with a 41.
Girls Tennis
Warsaw at Concord
ELKHART – Warsaw picked up another conference win, this time over Elkhart with a 3-2 victory. The Tigers are now 8-3, 5-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw’s No. 1 singles player Addie Lind had a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory. Abby Nicholas also picked up a singles win in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2.
NorthWood at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Wawasee came up short in its conference match against NorthWood, losing 4-1.
The lone Wawasee victory was picked up in No. 1 singles by Kiah Farrington, who won 7-5, 6-4.
Whitko at Rochester
ROCHESTER – Whitko picked up a dominant conference victory over Rochester Wednesday, winning in a clean 5-0 sweep.
The Lady ‘Cats won all five matches in straight sets. Anna Arter won in perfect fashion, taking her match 6-0, 6-0. Abbi Frank was just as good, winning 6-0, 6-1.
