WINONA LAKE - Grace’s track and field team had two athletes grab four awards this week.

Isaac Brown and Mackenzie DeLong had a weekend to remember. Brown was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week by both the NCCAA and the Crossroads League, and DeLong was the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week by the NCCAA and the Crossroads League.

The duo impressed over the weekend at Grace’s home meet. DeLong grabbed a pair of top-four finishes at the Lancer Invitational. She placed third in the shot put and was fourth in the discus.

Brown hit the NAIA “A” standard in two events. He won both the high jump and the javelin at the Lancer Invitational to continue his impressive season.

The Lancers will take on the Crossroads League Championships on Thursday and Friday. The meet will be held at the University of Notre Dame.

Grace Tackles League Championships

CARMEL - Grace’s women’s golf team kicked off the Crossroads League Championships on Monday at Prairie View Golf Club.

The Lady Lancers enjoyed some of the best weather of the spring with mild temperatures and a slight breeze on the challenging course.

Grace finished the opening day in sixth place after 36 holes, carding rounds of 334 and 330 as a team.

Rebecca Hawes was Grace’s steadiest player. She fired two nearly identical rounds of 82-81 on Monday, finishing the day in 23rd place.

Carolyn Pachoca dropped her score by four strokes between rounds. After carding an 84 in the morning round, she produced a second-round 80 to lead the Lady Lancers.

Summer Stillson (86-83), Lucy Young (83-86) and Grace May (85-87) rounded out Grace’s scoring for the two rounds.

Tuesday’s final round is set to begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Rain on Tuesday may delay or cancel the final 18 holes altogether, and a decision will be made on Tuesday morning.
