WINONA LAKE - The Kosciusko Leadership Academy cadets visited Grace College’s Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center March 22 where they heard from Marlene Betances, founder and CEO of EnPak LLC; Tim Early, founder and CEO of Network Partners; and Chris Scheeren, partner, Blue Barn Berry Farm, Blue Barn Fundraising, founder and president of Empowering Voices.

Betances spoke about lessons learned from starting a company: know your strengths and find others to fill in the gaps; networking is key, take one step at a time, pick your partners carefully and don’t give up.

EnPak offers services for packaging, labeling, kitting and warehousing for the medical device industry, according to a news release from KLA.

Early was the next entrepreneur that presented to the cadets. With 40 years of medical device experience, he is able to offer business partners to develop and maintain strategies that satisfy customer goals and drive innovation.

Early stated, “We’re a company built on staffing the medical device and pharmaceutical industries with subject matter experts. Our industry professionals provide a customized approach that meets our clients’ needs the first time, every time.”

Scheeren spoke about the family-owned and operated wedding and event venue, grocery and produce delivery service and Blue Barn Fundraising.

Blue Barn has become a staple of the Northern Indiana community, receiving awards as Kosciusko County's 2021 Rising Star Business, Syracuse's New Business of the Year and being recognized as the top tourist attraction in the area by TripAdvisor.

As an entrepreneur, he shared some advice and questions that help him discover new business opportunities such as, “What can I do for you? How can we help?” That is how Blue Barn Fresh began. (https://bluebarnberryfarm.company.site/)

Other tips included, “Success is exponential not finite” and “Collaborate with local producers.” Also, be a “relentless possibility thinker.”

This KLA session was the last regular session for the academy year. White paper presentations will be presented at “Project Proud” on April 12 at Ivy Tech Community College starting at 7:30 am. A graduation banquet will be held April 26 at the Owl’s Nest event center in North Webster.

The Kosciusko Leadership Academy is in its 40th year of service to the county. As an independent 501-3(c) organization, KLA conducts bi-weekly morning sessions around the county to expose leaders to a wide variety of local topics and experts.

The annual whitepaper projects have yielded many benefits to the citizens of Kosciusko County. For more information, visit www.kocsciuskoleadership.org.
