Local Area Hoopsters Named To All-Conference Teams

By Connor McCann-

Both the Northern Lakes and Hoosier North Athletic conferences announced their respective all-conference teams for boys basketball Monday, honoring five local area athletes.

In the Northern Lakes Conference, senior Judah Simfukwe and junior Jaxson Gould were selected to the team as representatives of the Warsaw Tigers. Warsaw finished second in the NLC this season with a 5-2 record, trailing only NorthWood. Simfukwe was second on the Tigers in scoring, averaging 13.6 points a game. Gould put together a stellar junior campaign, leading the Tigers in scoring with 19.7 ppg, while also leading the team in rebounding, assists and steals.

Wawasee senior Keaton Dukes was also named to the all-conference team. The Warriors’ leader led the team in scoring and played some tremendous defense down the stretch of the season, which saw Wawasee win four of its final six and earn a spot in the sectional championship.

In the Hoosier North, Triton seniors Ashton Oviedo and Tyson Yates were selected to the team. The Trojans had a fantastic season that ended in the regional championship Saturday. The sharpshooting Oviedo reached the 1,000 point mark earlier in the campaign, and Yates spread the floor as the Trojans floor general all season long.

Both Drew Heckaman of Warsaw and Cole Shively of Triton were both selected as honorable mentions.
