Silver Lake Annexes Property; Opens Bids For School Demolition

Council President Hugh Murfin said a next step is to work on town utilities access to the property, which is still owned by the Silver Lake Wesleyan Church.
Brent Martin, of SRKM Architecture of Warsaw, and associate Jeff Kumfer joined the meeting in preparation for the demolition of the old Silver Lake Elementary School building at 202 E. Sycamore St., Silver Lake. Martin opened bids for the demolition project.
Bids included:
• Bunn Inc., Fort Wayne, $247,036.
• Indiana Earth Inc., Osceola, $575,000.
• Taplin Group, Kalamazoo, Mich., $1,076,490.04
• Dore and Associates, Bay City, Mich., $268,300.
• Spangle Construction, Silver Lake, $320,330.
• Handy Excavating, Quincy, Mich., $208,000.
• Chuck Shane Excavating Inc., Akron, $265,000.
• Green Demolition Contractors Inc., Chicago, $408,000.
• Advanced Demolition Services, McComb, Ohio, $174,750.
The Council voted to take the bids under advisement.
In other business:
• Alan Tio, CEO of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, provided an update and information on small business loan opportunities in coordination with the town's existing facade grant program.
• Utilities Superintendent Joey McNeal received a $4,930.25 bid from Custer Electric Inc., Warsaw, to rebuild the vacuum pump at the lake pump house.
• Fire Chief John Conley reported seven runs this month: one traffic accident, three mutual aid assists and three medical assists.
The Council will next meet at 7 p.m. April 13.
