Kosciusko REMC Operation Round Up Awards $17,500 To Local Projects

Since its inception in 2003, the fund has awarded 548 grants totaling more than $1.4 million, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation.
KREMC Operation Round Up is a voluntary program through which KREMC members pool their resources together to help those in need by choosing to round up their monthly electricity bill to the nearest dollar. According to KREMC, each participating member contributes $6 a year on average.
This month, grants were awarded to The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana, Presby Preschool, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School, Winona Lake Limitless Park and Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts.
The Red Cross was awarded $2,500 to aid in the recovery process for Kosciusko County families displaced by house fires.
Presby Preschool also received $2,500 to help fund new nature camps for 4- to 6-year olds, which allow them to explore the outdoors and have new, creative experiences.
Tippecanoe Valley Middle Schools received $2,500 to help supply students living in food-insecure homes with food for the weekend and school breaks.
Awarded to the town of Winona Lake was $5,000 to support the final phases of development at Winona Lake Limitless Park. The project includes upgrades to the existing playground, beach and park landscape.
Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts also received a $5,000 grant for the purchase of two new keyboards for the Wagon Wheel Conservatory educational programs.
KREMC Operation Round Up is managed by Kosciusko County Community Foundation. The Community Foundation is a public charity that granted over $6 million last year in the areas of education, health, arts and culture, recreation, civic projects, environment and human services. Gifts made to the Community Foundation are tax-deductible.
