Local High School Sports Recaps For 6/4

Wawasee at New Castle
CONVERSE – Wawasee’s season came to an end Saturday afternoon, as the Warriors fell 9-0 to New Castle in their 3A regional game at Oak Hill High School. The Warriors finish the season with a 13-15 record.
Wawasee was dealt a tough blow before the game even started. Star player and Butler University commit Grant Brooks was unable to play due to an arm injury. The Warriors had a tough task in going against New Castle’s ace and Indiana University commit Aydan Decker-Petty.
Wawasee was only able to manage one base runner in the first three innings, coming on a dropped third strike. Through the first six innings, the Warriors would manage a few more base runners, but no hits. Gavin Malone managed a single on the first pitch of the seventh inning for the team’s lone hit.
Wawasee will return next season.
Softball
Whitko at North Newton
WARSAW – Whitko’s fantastic run to the 2A Semi-State tournament came to an end in the Lady ‘Cats first game of the day, losing 12-2 to North Newton in five innings at Warsaw Community High School. Whitko ends the season with a 9-14 record.
The game started out promising for the Lady ‘Cats, as Gwen Garr led off the game with a solo home run. Garr had two of the team’s three hits. Kaitlyn Cripe had the only other. North Newton scored three runs in each of the first two innings and was aggressive on the base paths, resulting in nine Whitko errors.
The Lady ‘Cats will return next season.
Girls Rugby
Warsaw
ELKHART - Warsaw girls rugby wrapped up a remarkable turn around season last week, finishing as the state runner up. After being the lowest ranked team in the state for the 2021 season, the team made a huge improvement to finish as the second best in 2022. The Tigers defeated Fort Wayne Carroll 28-17 in the Semi-State game to make the state championship.
