This new scholarship, which will be awarded to students pursuing a law degree, was established by the family of Reed in honor of his life of service as a lawyer.
Reed died in April at the age of 90. He was a longtime resident of Warsaw, and resided at Paddock Springs prior to his death. Reed was an attorney in Warsaw for 52 years, retiring in 2013.
Born in South Bend in 1931, he moved to Warsaw with his family in 1939. He loved sports and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1949. He attended Michigan State University before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Reed served four years with the Navy and was discharged in 1955. That same year he married June Hicks of Columbia City.
After completing his degree at Michigan State, Reed earned his law degree at Indiana University, Indianapolis, graduating in 1961. He returned to Warsaw with his family and worked for 15 years with Widaman law office.
In 1976, Reed opened his own office of general practice, which became Reed & Earhart. His son, Mike, joined the firm after graduating from Vanderbilt Law School in 1981.
Reed served the community as an attorney for the city of Warsaw, Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals and Warsaw Community Schools. He became a life member of the John C. Peterson Post of the American Legion, Scottish Rite, Warsaw Masonic Lodge No. 73, F. & A. M. and the Kosciusko County Shrine Club.
His wife, June, preceded him in death in 1988. He married Jean Bowers in 1995.
