Echoes Of The Past Bind Wheat
By Staff Report-
The reaper had been used by Slaybaugh until 2015 to harvest his own wheat. He now says he keeps it in storage and brings it out for occasions like the club’s event.
The field was approximately three-fourths of an acre and took about 90 minutes to reap and bind the wheat. The reaper was pulled by a vintage International 686, owned by Duane Harman and driven by Dan Ransbottom.
It took three wagons to haul away the wheat once it had been bound and stacked. The wagons were hauled by a vintage John Deere 70 Diesel and a vintage Farmall H.
Young Jared Miller and his father Garry Miller helped out the club by driving the tractors while club members loaded the wheat by pitchfork and stacked the wheat. The bundles of wheat will now be threshed using the club’s antique thresher at their event on Aug. 5-6 in Claypool. The tractor show, drive and pull will be located at the corner of County Farm Road and CR 700S. The show will start at noon on Aug. 5 and at 7 a.m. on Aug. 6 with breakfast being served.
