NORTH MANCHESTER - At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council elected new officers and approved a request from Amor Excavating to close College Avenue for an upcoming demolition project at Manchester University.

A section of College Avenue between Bond and Ruse Street will be barricaded off to allow for trucks and equipment to move safely in the area while the MU administration building is razed. The project will begin late this month and should be completed by late March or early April.

The Council elected Laura Rager as vice president and the Council's prior vice president, Jim Smith, as president. Allen Miracle stepped down as president and Councilman Gary Montel will replace him on the redevelopment committee.

Keith Gillenwater, of Grow Wabash County, spoke to the Council, providing an update on community partnerships, grant opportunities and overall goals for 2022.

Town attorney Matt Mize opened a bid for purchase of the water utility excess truck. The Council approved the purchase of a new wastewater utilities truck. With bid assistance of $7,400, the 2022 model will cost $37,800.

Clerk-Treasurer Carrie Mugford reported a town docket of $174,792.35 and a utilities docket of $209,755.60.

The Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 2.
