Culver's Opening 2nd Restaurant In Warsaw

A second Culver’s is coming to Warsaw and will be located at the former Steak N’ Shake location at 2455 Jalynn St.

The Culver’s at 852 N. Parker St. has been open since about 2011, according to co-owner Kevin Ray.

“This restaurant has been up in sales since we bought it, so there’s a strong reason to do another one on the sales front,” he said. “And then, we kind of reworked our wage matrix so all full-time people get $15 an hour now as long as they work 30 hours a week. That’s helped us accumulate some good team members to help us out with that. And we think with the new restaurant, we’ll be able to do the same thing over there.”

From what he’s heard, Ray said the old Steak N’ Shake building will be torn down and a new building will be built. Steak N’ Shake closed its doors in Warsaw in March 2019.

“I know sometimes they retrofit them, but it depends on the layout and everything, so I think they’re going to tear it down and start over,” he said.

Customers can expect the same menu at the new location, though Ray wasn’t sure if the square footage of the new building would be the same size as the other Culver’s.

“I know they kind of design them as small as they can just to save space and that saves money,” he said. “And now with a lot of our guests coming through drive-thru, there’s more of a focus on making the outside bigger so people can drive through easily.”

Ray expects the new restaurant will need to employ anywhere from 50 to 90 people, depending on the sales.

As for an opening date, he said the last he heard was October or November.

“They’ve got to get started soon to make that happen, but if they do it should be this year sometime, toward the end of the year,” Ray said.
