Classic Rock, Country Concerts Returning This Summer To Central Park

While the performers won’t be revealed until the first week of April, the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved the contracts during a meeting Friday.
Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Director Stephanie Schaefer presented the national country artist contract with Richard Mischell first. The country artist will perform at Glover Pavilion at Central Park July 22.
Schaefer said the city has worked with Mischell for several years to bring in national country artists. The contract is for $35,000, with $25,000 of that out of the Parks’ budget and $10,000 from the Zimmer Biomet donation and the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation sponsorship.
After the Board approved that contract, Schaefer presented the contract with Mischell for the national rock artist to perform at Glover Pavilion June 17 for $24,000. Of the $24,000, the Parks budget will provide $19,000 of that and $5,000 will come from Zimmer Biomet and Medtronic.
Board member George Clemens asked if the rock concert contract used to be more than the country concert contract.
“From what I’ve seen in past years, the country seems to be a little bit more. This rock concert was one that we had scheduled and it was cancelled and they just kept the same artist - without me saying a lot more,” Schaefer said. “So, yeah, I think that’s why the price difference is a lot lower because we’ve kind of locked that price in a couple years ago.”
The contract was approved 3-0.
Mayor Joe Thallemer said, “Give me a rough idea, and I know we’ve got partnerships with radio stations on these concerts, and I know they certainly have the privilege to announce these shows. When do we anticipate that being?”
Schaefer said they’re going to do that during the first week of April.
“We are in talks about how that’s all going to work and what that’s going to look like,” she said.
Other contracts Schaefer presented and the Board of Works approved on Friday included:
• Lake Area Community Band, Aug. 26, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Central Park Plaza, $500.
“I think this is going to add something to the Summer Concert Series, like at the end of it, so it’s not actually part of the Summer Concert Series, but an additional concert right after that,” Schaefer said. “We’ve had a lot of people ask for me to bring them, and it was something that they (Lake Area Community Band) wanted to do. I think $400, $500 to bring a lot of people out on a Friday night in our beautiful Central Park Plaza makes a lot of sense.”
• Indiana Pony Parties, to provide bunnies and baby chicks for Eggstravaganza event, 6 to 7:30 p.m., April 8, Center Lake Pavilion, 119 E. Canal St., $150.
Schaefer said, “This is a new program. We would like to contract Indiana Pony Parties. They would be bringing bunnies and chicks to that event, and I think that would be a great addition for the kids to be able to see those animals.”
