AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley High School on Friday announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2022.

Valedictorian Sydney Petersen is the daughter of Sarah and Mike Petersen, Claypool.

She is planning on attending Purdue University and get her Bachelors of Science in Veterinary Nursing, according to provided information.

Some of her hobbies include hanging out with her friends and family, being involved with 4-H and Future Farmers of America and volunteering in the children ministries program at her church.

Some of her awards and accomplishments include winning Grand Champion Specialty Market Goat at the Kosciusko County 4-H Fair in 2021, winning fifth overall Supreme Ewe at the Indiana State Fair in 2021, serving as treasurer of the Indiana District II FFA Officer Team her senior year and being able to participate in multiple national contests in FFA.

Salutatorian Shane Wood is the son of Jill and Raymond Wood, Akron.

He plans on being a computer hardware engineer major, but is undecided on the college he will attend.

Some of the things Wood is involved in are archery, robotics, academic team, student council and National Honor Society.

His hobbies include programming, 3D printing and computers.

Friday, Sydney said it was cool to be named valedictorian because her studies have been a priority and it was nice to have her hard work pay off.

Shane said it was nice to be done and graduation was 114 days away.

They were told about the valedictorian and salutatorian status in December.

Friday, Sarah said she was happy to see her daughter’s hard work pay off. Mike said he thinks Sydney and Shane pushed each other a little bit and made it a little bit of a competition.

Jill said it was quite an honor for Shane to be salutatorian. He’s very smart and his hard work paid off, she said.
