WINONA LAKE - Marcus Moore has decided to step away from his position as the head coach of Grace’s women’s tennis team.

Moore will continue in his role at Grace as the Athletics Admissions Recruiting Coordinator in addition to his teaching responsibilities in Grace’s sport management program.

He steps away as the all-time leader in wins in team history, guiding the Lady Lancers to a 56-26 record since 2017. The top-three winningest seasons in team history happened under Moore’s guidance (2018, 2019, 2020).

“Being called ‘Coach’ is one of the greatest privileges I've had in my life. God has allowed me to live out my dream over the past decade (last five years at Grace) investing in the lives of young women and men, and I look forward to continuing to do that in a different capacity,” Moore said. “Our tennis program means the world to me and especially the young ladies in it. I know that our program will be in great hands. I will continue to cheer them on and will always remain their number one fan.”

Stepping in as the interim coach will be a familiar face to Grace women’s tennis. Emily Ackerman (Mast) will serve as the interim coach for the team this spring.

Ackerman was one of the best players in Grace’s history. She was a three-time All-Crossroads League player in her three-year career. She posted a 74-22 record overall in her career.

In 2019 she was named an NCCAA All-American, the first All-American in team history.

“I’m thankful for Marcus’s impact on my life; he’s been a mentor and friend to so many players over the years. This program means a lot to him, and I’m honored that I will be able to lead our ladies this spring,” Ackerman said. “Grace College women’s tennis has a special place in my heart, and I am thrilled to invest back into a program that has invested so much into me.”

The athletic department will undergo a national search for a new women’s tennis head coach later this spring. The Lady Lancers went 6-4 this fall and 5-3 in the Crossroads League.

“We are grateful for the years of ministry through tennis that Marcus has given to Grace. We look forward to his continued impact on our athletic department and campus in his current role as Athletics Admissions Recruiting Coordinator,” said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “We are excited for Emily to lead and continue to develop the program this spring as she impacts lives for Christ through tennis. Her experience and knowledge of Grace tennis will serve her well in this new role.”
