ELKHART - Dudley W. Rider, 74, passed away Dec. 23, 2022, at Woodland Manor Nursing Home after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born Jan. 14, 1948, in Mishawaka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Fern Rider, Norman and Shirley McCartney; first wife, Cheryl Rider; and his in-laws, Bill and Ruth Miller.

Surviving is his wife, Patricia Rider; two daughters, Kelly (Amanda Schelle) Rider, Jaime (Jason) Stacy; one stepdaughter, Megan (Ben) Wigonton; two grandchildren, Kara and Connor; two stepgrandchildren, Murphy and Brody. Also surviving is a sister, Darlene VanRie; and a brother, Terry (Wanda) McCartney.

Dudley was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War, a member of the American Legion and retired in 2015 from DePuy Synthes after over 15 years of service. He was an animal lover especially horses and cats, avid outdoorsman, enjoyed taking care of his yard, traveling and was even a Concord band dad when his children were younger. Dudley adored both of his wives, cherished all the time he had making memories with his children and grandchildren and will be remembered as a true family man.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church on Friday, Dec. 30. Presiding will be Father Craig Borchard and entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the ProMedica Hospice.
