Warsaw Housing Authority Presents Good Housekeeping Award 2022
By Staff Report-
Families earning this status receive a Good Housekeeping Award and the landlord is notified.
Each December, Warsaw Housing Authority draws a name for a grand prize winner from Warsaw and Goshen. As families receive an award throughout the year, their name is placed in one or the other jars, according to a news release from WHA.
The award demonstrates that the family is a good renter. Some families work to earn this award annually.
This year, the Warsaw grand prize winner is Melissa Longnecker, Warsaw. Her landlord is Jack Volkers. Volker has partnered with WHA for many years, opening his rentals to families with Housing Choice Vouchers.
The Goshen grand prize winner was awarded to Michael Stark. Stark has rented the same unit since 2014. His landlord is Berkshire Hathaway Home Service Northern Indiana Real Estate LLC. He receives a Good Housekeeping Award annually and this year adds grand prize winner to his award list.
Out of 484 inspections, 287 families received a Good Housekeeping Award this year. In Warsaw, 68% received an award and in Goshen, 52%.
Each winner received $150 gift card, candy and balloons. The landlords arranged for Longnecker and Stark to be home by telling them that maintenance was to be performed, so they could be surprised when the “prize patrol” arrived at their door steps.
The WHA is always in need of more landlords to participate in the housing choice voucher program. In the past six months, only 75% of the families issued a HCV were able to find a place to rent. WHA will give a new landlord $250 for their first lease up with a voucher with WHA.
If you are a landlord and have an open housing unit to rent and/or interested in renting to families issued housing vouchers, call 574-269-7641, Ext 1030.
