Lady Lancers Post Dominant 71-43 Win Over IU Kokomo

The Lady Lancers’ stout defense led the way, muting IUK to 25 percent shooting from the floor and 16 percent on 3-pointers.
Maddie Ryman led all players with 19 points, and Karlee Feldman earned her ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Grace enjoyed a raucous home crowd advantage for the entirety of Tuesday’s game. The stands were filled with energetic elementary school children, who were invited to attend as part of Grace’s Elementary Day.
The Lady Lancers took advantage, stunning the Cougars to a 20-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Karlee Feldman was a central figure, tallying eight first-quarter points. Grace was a force in the paint, scoring 18 of its 20 points in the paint.
Grace’s defense was impressive, holding the Cougars to just one made field goal (9 percent shooting) and eight turnovers.
In the second quarter, however, Grace went cold. The Lady Lancers mustered just 10 points, shooting 4 of 16 in the frame. IUK took advantage to pull within five points in the final minute of the half.
But Grace ended the half on a high note as Molly Long’s 3-pointer beat the halftime buzzer, sending the Lady Lancers into halftime with a 30-22 lead.
Grace assisted on 10 of its 14 made field goals but shot just 39 percent from the floor.
The second quarter proved to be an outlier as Grace got back down to business in the second half. The Lady Lancers held IUK to just nine points in the third quarter as the Cougars shot 3 of 16 in the frame.
In the fourth quarter, Grace continued to build on its lead. Ryman was aggressive, scoring 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and a variety of drives.
Grace went to its bench early in the fourth quarter, allowing all 12 healthy players to see time on the court.
Grace scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, its highest tally of the game, as the Lady Lancers wore down IUK. Grace rolled to the final 28-point margin of victory.
“Great way to close out this part of the season,” said Grace head coach Dan Davis. “I thought we looked like ourselves today with how we shared the ball and were locked in defensively. Also have to give a huge shoutout to all the elementary kids for coming out today, they had the MOCC rocking, one of the most fun games I have ever coached in.
For the game, Grace shot 44 percent overall and 24 percent on 3s. Grace outrebounded IUK by nine (47-36) and outscored IUK 40-12 in the paint.
Ryman’s game-high 19 points came with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, and Feldman shot 7 of 12 for her 15 points.
Kate Rulli was productive off the bench with 14 points and five rebounds, and Peyton Murphy amassed 10 points, 4 assists and 7 rebounds.
Kaylee Patton handed out six assists, Kiersten Findley added 6 points, 5 assists and 4 boards, and Long scored five points. Bekah Marshall tallied two assists, and Jenna Blakley also scored two points.
The Lady Lancers are back home with a pair of games just before the New Year. Grace will host Great Lakes Christian on Dec. 30 at 12 p.m. as part of a men’s/women’s doubleheader. Grace will also host Midway on Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. to wrap up the 2022 portion of the schedule.
Grace will then resume Crossroads League play on Jan. 4, beginning a string of 13 straight league games for the remainder of the regular season. Grace sits tied for first in the league standings with a perfect 5-0 record in CL play.
