Jo C. Paxton, of Warsaw, known by many as simply JC, passed away unexpectedly at 10:55 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, at Kosciusko Lutheran Hospital in Warsaw at the age of 82.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1940, in Warsaw, to Clover Devonna Davis and Joe C Paxton. JC was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he was a 1958 graduate of Warsaw High School and a 1962 graduate of Manchester College.  After graduating he worked as the senior accountant for Arthur Andersen & Co. from 1962-67, and from 1967-75 he worked as an auditor and cashier for First National Bank of Warsaw. JC took the position of controller/treasurer for Penguin Point Franchise Systems from 1975-86 and from 1990-2002 he was a personal financial advisor for American Express Financial Advisors Inc. From 2002-04, he was a sales representative for Integrity Capital Corporation and in 2004, he also served as a special representative for George S. May International Company.

JC enjoyed the fellowship of his church family as a member of First Christian Church of Warsaw where he had served as the treasurer from 1997-2001. He was also a longtime member of Warsaw Kiwanis Club since 1968 and served as the president from 1995-96; was an active member of the Warsaw Lodge No. 73, F. & A.M. since 1973 and he was proud to be the Grand Master of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Indiana from May 1986 to May 1987.  JC kept active in the community and was the director of the Greater Warsaw Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and was the president of the United Way of Kosciusko County in 1971 and 1972. He loved being around people and could strike up a conversation with anyone sitting next to him. He had a heart for service and enjoyed helping out whenever and wherever he was able. JC will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He leaves behind his son, Phillip W. (Holly) Paxton, Fishers; two daughters, Michelle A. (Don) Melton, Brownsburg; Karen R. (Arnold) Horan, Vancouver, B.C., Canada; five grandchildren: Pamela (Melton) Byrd, St. Charles, Mo.; Tirza Malcomber, Allyn, Michaela and Jori Hillery, Vancouver, B.C., Canada; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are, one brother: Charles D. (Penny) Paxton, Columbia, SC.; and one sister, Elma Lu Cassbolt, Olympia, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents.

JC’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Matthew Rogers. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be directed to First Christian Church, 115 Park Ridge Drive, Warsaw, IN 46580 and would be appreciated by the family.
