Lincoln Seeking Leesburg Town Board Seat

December 14, 2022 at 1:59 a.m.

A man who served on the Claypool Town Board over 25 years ago is now seeking to serve on the Leesburg Town Board.

Darrin Lincoln, 57, said he served for about two years on the Claypool Town Board when he was 31. He stepped down from Claypool’s board after moving out of town.

He and his wife, who was born and raised in Leesburg, have lived in the town limits of Leesburg for the last seven years and outside of the town limits for 20 years.

Lincoln is now looking to fill the Leesburg Town Board seat being vacated by Republican Doug Jones, who resigned in November, effective Dec. 31.

Since fewer than two people would be eligible to participate in a precinct committeemen caucus to fill a vacancy on the Leesburg Town Board, Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan will appoint a person. The vacancy will be filled and announced at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the Kosciusko County Clerk’s Office, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw.

Lincoln said he decided to run for the Leesburg Town Board seat because he’s had some experience in an elected position and he’s interested in what’s going on in town. He said he’s been attending some board meetings. There’s not a particular issue he’s interested in, but just wants to do what’s in the best interest of the town, he said.

“Most residents in town know me,” Lincoln said.

He’s been an employee of the Kosciusko County Highway Department for almost 11 years.

Eligible applicants must be a resident of the town of Leesburg and be a Republican in good standing, according to a news release from Ragan. The appointed person will fill the remaining unexpired term of Jones.

Declarations of candidacy and statements of economic interests are available at the Clerk’s Office, and must be notarized and filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the appointment. Ragan’s phone number is 574-265-1430 and email is [email protected].
