Warsaw at Fort Wayne Northside
Warsaw boys basketball continued its up and down start to the 2022-23 season Saturday with a close 60-53 loss to Fort Wayne Northside. The Tigers have traded wins and losses to start the season and currently sit at 2-2.
It was a productive night for senior Jaxson Gould, who scored 15 points on 50% shooting to go with a team-high six rebounds. Luke Bricker scored 13 points for Warsaw, hitting three three-pointers. Drew Hackaman was the third Tiger to finish in double figures with 12 points.
Warsaw opens up Northern Lakes Conference play Friday when the team travels to Syracuse to take on Wawasee.
John Glenn at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley saw its win streak reach four games Saturday night after defeating John Glenn at Rita Price Simpson Court. The Vikings are now 4-1 this season and have won all four games during the streak by double digits.
Seniors Tayde Kiser and Nolan Cumberland led the way for the home team, scoring 17 and 15 points. Tippecanoe Valley is off until Friday, when the team hosts Whitko for both sides’ first Three Rivers Conference game of the season.
Huntington North at Manchester
Manchester continued what has been a fantastic start to the season with yet another double-digit victory. The Squires took down Huntington North 50-36 at home Saturday night to win their fourth game in a row and improve to 4-1 this season.
Ethan Hendrix led all scorers with 21 points, all coming in the second half. Sophomore Gavin Betten did everything for the team, finishing with 14 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals. Tyler McLain also contributed nine points.
The Squires open up Three Rivers Conference play against Southwood on Friday night.
Bluffton at Lakeland Christian
Lakeland Christian got back into the win column Friday night with a 55-43 victory over Bluffton. The Cougars are now 4-1 this season.
Seth Martin was tremendous again for LCA, putting in 27 points. Martin reached the 1,000 point mark for his career in the game. Ben Jackson had 12 points for the Cougars. Lakeland Christian plays at North Miami Tuesday.
Girls Basketball
Plymouth at Warsaw
Warsaw girls basketball made it five wins in a row Saturday night, defeating Plymouth 60-32 to move to 9-2 and 2-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Abbey Petersen and Brooke Zartman were the Tigers two double-digit scorers, finishing with 11 and 10 points respectively. Zoe Bergan got it done on the glass for Warsaw, grabbing eleven rebounds. Warsaw will look to make it six in a row Tuesday when the Tigers host Columbia City.
Manchester at Carroll (Flora)
Manchester was unable to make it two wins in two days after defeating Whitko on Friday night, falling 71-48 to Carroll (Flora) on the road Saturday. The Lady Squires are now 5-7 this winter.
The home team got off to a quick start, outscoring Manchester 29-7 in the first quarter. Despite the loss, it was a good game from Brookelynn Buzzard, who finished with 25 points. Gracie Lauer reached double digits for the second straight game, scoring eleven points to go with six rebounds. The Lady Squires have a midseason nonconference game with Churubusco on Wednesday.
Triton at Caston
It was a tough game for Triton Saturday, as the Trojans fell 48-15 on the road at Caston. Triton is now 8-5 this season, having lost four of its last five games.
Jocelynn Faulkner had five points while Kinsey Atkins and Addyson Viers each had four. Viers also contributed 14 rebounds. The Trojans host Jimtown Tuesday looking to get back on track.
Trinity at Lakeland Christian
Lakeland Christian remains undefeated in the Hoosier Plains Conference after defeating Trinity at home Saturday 42-27. The Cougars are now 6-1 this season, 2-0 in the HPC.
Mattie Stonebreaker almost outscored her opponents by herself, finishing her night with 21 points. Reese Stonebreaker and Katie Reimink each scored eight points.
LCA travels to Granger Christian Thursday for a nonconference match up.
North Miami at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley kept it rolling and picked up a huge conference win Friday night, defeating North Miami 44-28 at home. The Lady Vikings have won their last seven games and sit at 10-2. With the victory, Tippy Valley is the last remaining undefeated team in TRC play at 3-0.
Kaydence Mellott had 17 points for the Lady Vikings. Macy Peterson came back from an ankle injury suffered on Wednesday night against Triton to contribute 10 points.
Tippy Valley hosts Winamac on Thursday.
Wrestling
Warsaw at Raider Duels
The Tiger wrestling team took part in the annual Northridge Raider duals on Saturday, coming home with a 3-2 record and a 1-1 conference split.
Warsaw started the morning off against Penn’s split squad. On the strength of 7 pins and 9 total wins, the Tigers took a 50-27 victory.
Round two matches Warsaw with Northfield, where the Tigers picked up 12 of 14 wins and a 65-12 team win.
For the rest of the day, Warsaw would be in hotly contested battles with each of them being decided in the final stretch.
The Tigers would manage to build narrow leads a few times in round three against Northridge, but would ultimately lose by a 28-37 team score.
Round four was remarkably similar with Warsaw battling Homestead into the final bout of the dual. The Tigers led most of the way through the contest, but Homestead would win three of the last four to give Warsaw a 28-33 loss.
In a back-and-forth affair with Northwood, the Tigers would earn pins in the last two matches to take home a 42-36 NLC win. The two team put together an absolute slug fest with only two of the matches resulting in a win by decision.
In what was the deepest competition of the season for the Tigers, they still had several individuals put together quality showings.
Gideon Castro at 285, Aaron Ross at 145, and Isaiah Martinez at 126 all went 5-0.
Isaac Beam at 220, Jaxson Walters at 182, and Bryce McNees at 106 all went 4-1 (with McNees bumping to 113 on his only defeat).
Bryson Brown at 160 and Nathan Rosas at 195 both went 3-2 for the Tigers.
Warsaw exits its toughest stretch of the season with a 14-4 record. The Tigers NLC record closes at 4-3.
Warsaw’s next opportunity will be on December 21 when they travel to South Bend Riley.
