The Warsaw Tiger striker for the boys’ squad picked up his second hat trick this week, scoring goals at the 3-, 42-, and 54-minute mark in an 11-2 win Saturday over the East Chicago Cardinals at the Tiger Soccer Complex in a match shortened by the IHSAA Mercy rule (nine-goal margin).
The junior picked up another hat trick earlier this past week in an 8-0 whitewashing of Argon Aug. 16.
The Tiger Soccer Complex was busy from Saturday morning through the early afternoon, and all three levels of Warsaw Tiger boys’ soccer posted dominant wins over opponents from the Region. The varsity squad capped off the busy day with an 11-2 victory over the East Chicago Cardinals
The varsity and JV matches against East Chicago were added to the Tigers’ slate very recently, but the C-team’s match against the Valparaiso Vikings was planned in the offseason. The youngest rung of the Warsaw Soccer ladder posted a 6-1 win, and the junior varsity squad played a half game resulting in a 6-0 win over East Chicago.
Warsaw varsity head coach Ryan Burgher didn’t have much time to get the book on the very recently scheduled Cardinals, but he was pleasantly surprised by the opportunity to see his reserves on the pitch for most of the first half.
“We didn’t have an idea what East Chicago was like,” Burgher said. “When we scored two goals between the first and second minute, I realized we had an opportunity to get looks at reserve players today.”
Junior striker Eduardo Escutia and senior midfielder Javi Enciso, each between the first and second minutes, had the Tigers ahead immediately on the wet pitch. Enciso finished the match with an additional goal (41’).
Senior midfielder Roberto “Tito” Sanchez scored at the third minute along with Vanpufflen’s aforementioned goal, and Burgher subsequently spilled substitutions everywhere on the pitch at the fifth minute except for goalkeeper Nehemiah Wright.
Sanchez scored his second goal at the 52nd minute. Wright and the reserves remained on the field for the rest of the first half. East Chicago scored its two goals (Luis Barajas 31’, Brandon Ramirez 32’) during this span.
“Getting to see all these guys for that much time will give us some things to work on in practices this week,” Burgher noted. “It was good for them to get looks this early in the season.”
Colton Martin (senior defender, penalty kick goal 9’), Isaiah Lara (junior midfielder, 48’), and Matthew
Marsh (junior striker, game-ending goal) rounded out Warsaw’s scoring. Junior midfielder Julian Saldivar added an assist on the final goal.
Mydin Burgher scored a hat trick for the C team, Marco Cuahuizo added two goals, and Andy Vass scored one in the 6-1 win over Valparaiso. Limited JV scoring information was available except for Esteban Saldivar’s two goals in the 6-0 win.
Warsaw hosts Huntington North Tuesday at the Tiger Soccer Complex, then travels to Plymouth for a Northern Lakes Conference match Thursday.
