Silver Lake To Plan Sewer Improvements

USI representatives Mitch Hansel and Beth Johnson addressed the Council regarding the state of the clay sewers and sidewalks as well as the drain behind the fire station, which is also in need of work.
The projects will be funded through a matching grant program of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) monies. With a total project cost of around $650,000, the town's portion would be around $162,000.
In old business, the Council decided to waive court-ordered fees for Village Estates should the property's water leak be fixed. A sewer leak has already been repaired since the July meeting.
A masonry invoice for $71,665.50 and a change order were approved for the school building demolition project at 202 E. Sycamore St.
In other business:
• A budget administration meeting was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
• The Council heard an update from Alan Tio of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO).
• The town must hire a NIPSCO-approved engineer to certify Silver Lake's planned electric pole usage for Christmas decorations.
• The town is working to convert a vacant lot at Schutt Avenue into a parking lot for boaters.
• Town Marshal Jason McGlennen reported continuing thefts and urged residents to lock up their possessions.
• The fire department had 10 runs last month: five departmental assists, four medical assists and one fire.
• The claims docket was $130,822.50.
