Local High School Sports Recaps For 4/25

Rochester at Tippecanoe Valley
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley came up short in its rivalry game against Three Rivers Conference foe Rochester Monday, losing 12-4. The Vikings are now 2-4 this season, 0-2 in the TRC.
Annakin Pettit hit a home run and drove in two runs in the loss. Noah Prater led all Valley hitters with two knocks, one for extra bases. Markus Bernicky pitched 4.1 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out four. The Viking defense made three errors on the day.
Next up for Tippecanoe Valley is a matchup with Peru Wednesday night.
Warsaw at NorthWood
NAPPANEE – Warsaw continued a solid start to its season with an offensive clinic against NorthWood, winning 16-5 in six innings. The Tigers are now 5-2 this spring.
Warsaw could not be stopped from circling the bases, totaling 14 hits on the day to go with six stolen bases. Josh Shapiro led the team with three stolen bags as well as two hits and two runners batted in. The Tigers ace Sam Justice struck out eight hitters in five innings of work.
Warsaw hosts Northridge Wednesday evening.
Peru at Whitko
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko dropped a tough TRC matchup to Peru Monday, falling 6-2. The Wildcats are now 4-5 this season.
Giving up five runs in the fourth, Whitko was able to get two back in the fifth due to RBIs from Logan Hoffman and Ryan Brown, but were unable to do anything else. In 3.2 innings of work, Isaiah Cripe gave up only one run.
Whitko takes on North Miami at home Wednesday.
Bethany Christian at Triton
BOURBON – Triton is still looking for its first mark in the win column after falling 10-0 in six innings to Bethany Christian Monday. The Trojans are now 0-9 this season.
Dominic Smith had Triton’s lone hit in the game, which went for extra bases as a double.
Triton travels to Knox Thursday.
Northfield at Manchester
NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester had trouble scoring runs in a 5-2 loss to Northfield Monday. The Squires are now 2-5 this season.
Manchester was able to manage seven hits on the day, but had trouble bringing runners around. The team was held scoreless in every inning except the sixth, in which they scored both of their runs.
Next up for the Squires is a road game at Maconaquah Wednesday.
Softball
Warsaw at NorthWood
NAPPANEE – Warsaw came up just short in a high scoring affair with NorthWood Monday, falling 15-13 in the Northern Lakes Conference matchup. The Tigers are now 3-4 this spring, 1-2 in the NLC.
Trailing 10-5 going into the sixth inning, the Warsaw bats came alive, scoring eight runs in the final two frames. But the team also gave up five in the bottom half of the sixth, causing the comeback to fall just short.
Warsaw takes on Northridge Wednesday.
Rochester at Tippecanoe Valley
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley got back to its winning ways after splitting a doubleheader over the weekend, defeating Rochester 13-7 Monday night. The Lady Vikings improve to 9-2, 2-0 in the TRC.
Corinna Stiles had a huge game for Valley, getting two hits, a home run and four RBIs. Stiles pitched five innings on the mound, striking out six. Molly Moriarty also hit a home run and drove in three. Moriarty has already hit five home runs this season.
The Lady Vikings play their next game Wednesday against Peru.
Northridge at Wawasee
SYRACUSE - Wawasee struggled to get anything going offensively in an 8-0 loss to conference foe Northridge Monday. The Warriors are now 5-6, 2-1 in the NLC.
Wawasee plays its next game Wednesday at Plymouth.
Peru at Whitko
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko dropped a close TRC game against Peru Monday, falling 3-2 to the Tigers. The Lady ‘Cats are now 2-5, 0-2 in the TRC.
Despite the loss, Maddie Dafforn was terrific on the mound, striking out eleven hitters. Maddie Cripe hit a triple for Whitko.
The Lady ‘Cats next play Wednesday against North Miami.
Triton at LaVille
LAKEVILLE – Triton had its losing streak extended to five on Monday evening after falling 8-4 to LaVille. The Lady Trojans are now 2-8 this season.
Next up for Triton is a home game Thursday against Bremen.
Boys Golf
Warsaw at Triton
WARSAW – Warsaw emerged victorious in its match against Triton at Rozella Ford golf course Monday, scoring a 152 to Triton’s 171.
Leading the way for the Tigers were Cal Hoskins and Aidan Bowell, who both shot a 36. Triton’s best performance came from Cole McKinney, who shot a 39. The best performance of the day would come from Jaxson Gould of Warsaw’s junior varsity team, who shot a 34.
Girls Tennis
Warsaw at Fort Wayne Carroll
FORT WAYNE – Warsaw picked up its first win of the season in dominating fashion Monday, defeating Carroll 5-0, The Tigers are now 1-3 this season.
Abby Nicholas was dominant in her singles match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Four of the five matches won by Warsaw were won in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-1 win by doubles pair of Kennedy Wiedeman and Avery Landwerlen.
Rochester at Manchester
NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester picked up a sweep of visiting conference foe Rochester Monday, winning 5-0. The Lady Squires are now 5-1 this season, 3-0 in the TRC.
Alyssa Marvel picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles, while both Lady Squires’ doubles pairs only lost two games each. Manchester did not lose a set in its five victories.
Columbia City at Whitko
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko picked up a nonconference win over Columbia City Monday, winning 4-1.
Kylie Fugett battled hard in her singles match, winning the first set 6-0 and then fighting off her opponent in the second for a 7-5 win. Jaycie Thomas and Morgan Dyck picked up a 6-2, 6-4 doubles victory.
