Local High School Sports Recaps For 4/19

Wawasee at Warsaw
WARSAW – In a battle between two local teams and conference rivals, it was Warsaw that emerged victorious over Wawasee on Tuesday night, winning 5-4. The Tigers are now 2-1 this season, while the Warriors fall to 1-3.
Sam Justice was fantastic for Warsaw in this one, doing everything for the Tigers in the victory. The starter went 6 2/3 innings, striking out 13 hitters and allowing four runs. He also had two hits in four at bats, and also stole two bases. The Tigers stole seven as a team.
Wawasee hit two home runs in the game, one by Grant Brooks in the third and the other by Ty Brooks in the fifth. Grant also started for Wawasee, giving up five runs in four innings, while striking out seven and walking nobody.
With the game tied at four, Warsaw was able to squeeze a run across in the fifth to take the lead it would hold on to for the remainder of the contest. Warsaw plays its next game Friday at Plymouth. Wawasee takes on NorthWood Friday night.
North Judson at Triton
BOURBON – It was a tough night for Triton Tuesday, as the team came up short in both games of a doubleheader to North Judson, falling 12-2 and 17-0. The Trojans are still searching for their first win, as they fall to 0-6.
Dominic Smith had both RBIs in the first game for Triton, as well as a stolen base in game two. He also had four strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched, while walking six and giving up five runs.
Triton plays its next game Saturday at Pioneer.
Softball
Warsaw at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Wawasee started Northern Lakes Conference play with a win Tuesday, defeating Warsaw 7-6. The Warriors are now 3-4 while Warsaw falls to 2-3.
Haylee Allen led Wawasee with three hits in five at bats, driving in three runs and scoring two herself. She also pitched a complete game, striking out eight in seven innings while giving up six runs on 12 hits. Laney Gross and Evelyn Duncan both had three hits as well.
For Warsaw, Kali Ousley had three hits and drove in a run. Eight Warsaw players would record a hit, and five would drive in a run. Makayla Holder and Avery Sleeth both had two hits.
Wawasee travels to NorthWood Friday, while Warsaw hosts Plymouth.
Tippecanoe Valley at Culver Academies
CULVER – Tippecanoe Valley continued its hot start to the season Tuesday evening with a 16-0 victory over Culver Academies in five innings. The Lady Vikings are 6-1 this spring.
Molly Moriarty hit another home run, and also hit a double to drive in two runs. Maddie Thompson, Madi Smith and Brayden Baney all had three hits, with Smith and Baney coming around to score three runs as well. Baney also drove in two.
Tippy Valley plays its next game Saturday at Adams Central.
Manchester at Adams Central
MONROE – Manchester lost a tough game Tuesday, falling to Adams Central 12-2 on the road. The Lady Squires are now 1-4 this season.
Manchester plays its next game Thursday at Triton.
Pioneer at Triton
BOURBON – Triton faced a tough challenge to open up Hoosier North Athletic Conference play Tuesday, taking on a top ranked Pioneer side. The Lady Trojans dropped the contest 21-3 and fall to 2-6 this season.
Triton was hit early and often, giving up 18 runs in the first three innings. The Lady Trojans take on Manchester Thursday.

Warsaw at Mishawaka
MISHAWAKA – The Warsaw boys track team opened up NLC play with a win over Mishawaka Tuesday night.
Jeremy Johnson had three first place finishes in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m races. Trace Stookey had a personal best in discus (142’6”) to take first place.
Warsaw hosts Wawasee and Northridge Thursday for senior night.
Concord/Mishawaka at Warsaw
WARSAW – Warsaw girls track picked up a win to open up conference play Tuesday night, finishing with 108 points.
Coming in second place at the meet was Warsaw’s JV team with 95 points. In a meet dominated by the Tigers, Warsaw showed out with multiple victories and top three finishes.
Next up for the Tigers is a Saturday morning meet at Penn.
Goshen/Plymouth at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Wawasee girls track picked up a win at a conference meet Tuesday, tallying 69 points to narrowly edge Goshen’s 66.
Alissa Gill picked up a win in the 200m dash. Dylan Konieczny won the 100m hurdles.

Plymouth at Warsaw
WARSAW – Plymouth took a conference victory over Warsaw Tuesday, defeating the Tigers 3-2. Warsaw is now 0-2 this season.
Addie Lind continued her strong start to the season for the Tigers, picking up a straight set 6-1, 6-3 victory as the No. 1 singles player. Regan Brouwer also picked up a win in singles.
Warsaw hosts Fairfield Thursday.
Whitko at Triton
BOURBON – Whitko defeated Triton in the battle of local area schools Tuesday night, coming away with a 4-1 victory.
Kylie Fugett of Whitko continued her strong start, moving to 3-0 with a straight set victory. Anna Arter and Abbi Frank helped finish off a sweep in singles play for the Lady ‘Cats.
Whitko hosts Tippecanoe Valley Thursday, while Triton takes on North Judson next Wednesday.
Manchester at Maconaquah
BUNKER HILL – Manchester picked up a Three Rivers Conference victory over Maconaquah Tuesday, winning 4-1 to improve to 2-0 this season.
Sarah Kerlin and Alyssa Marvel both picked up singles victories for the Lady Squires. The teams of Abbie Wampler and Carleigh Blevins and Delani Henderson and Hailey Krom combined to sweep the doubles competition.
Manchester takes on Wawasee Thursday.
