Local High School Sports Recaps For 4/15 & 4/16

Baseball

Warsaw at Elkhart

ELKHART – Warsaw baseball fell back to .500 after falling 4-2 to Elkhart Saturday morning. The Tigers are now 2-2 this spring.

Warsaw fell behind early, giving up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Starting pitcher Kyle Showley settled in afterwards, giving up just one more run in his next five innings of work, striking out six. Josh Shaprio hit two doubles and scored a run, but all the Tigers were able to score were two runs in the second.

Friday night, Warsaw picked up a 16-10 victory against Columbia City.

The Tigers take on Wawasee Monday evening.

Whitko at Heritage

MONROEVILLE – Whitko dropped its second straight game Saturday morning, falling 8-6 in a nonconference matchup with an undefeated Heritage side.

Easton Grable went 3-3 with two doubles in the contest, while also stealing a base and scoring a run. Riley Harman and Brent Bowers also added two hits.

Whitko plays its next game Monday at West Noble.

Bremen at Tippecanoe Valley

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley dropped its nonconference matchup with Bremen Friday night, falling 9-2. The Vikings are now 1-1 this spring.

Annikan Pettit got on base three times, hitting a double and drawing two walks. Delmar Estep gave up four runs in 3.1 innings pitched, but only one was earned. He struck out four.

Valley plays its next game Monday, a makeup game with Fairfield.

Manchester at Eastern

GREENTOWN – Manchester is still searching for its first win after falling 11-4 to nonconference opponent Eastern Friday night. The Squires are now 0-3 this season.

Garrett Sites and Ethan Espeset both had two hits, with Sites hitting an RBI triple and Espeset a double he would go on to score from.

Manchester takes on Oak Hill Monday night.



Softball

Wawasee at Triton

BOURBON – Wawasee defeated Triton 10-3 Saturday morning in a nonconference matchup between local area teams. Wawasee is now 2-4 this season, Triton falls to 2-5.

Both teams were able to get a lot of runners on base, but it was the Warriors who were able to convert into runs. Five Wawasee players had two or more hits. The Lady Trojans finished with seven hits as a team.

Both Wawasee and Triton host conference matchups Monday, with Warsaw traveling to Syracuse and Knox headed to Bourbon.

Warsaw at Fort Wayne Snyder

FORT WAYNE – Warsaw picked up two wins in a double header against Fort Wayne Snyder Saturday, winning 13-3 and 11-5.

Avery Sleeth, Adelynn Williams and Kendyll Landis all drove in two runs in game number one. Landis went 3-3. Lauren Eastwood had three hits in game two.

Warsaw travels to Wawasee for its next game Monday.

John Glenn at Tippecanoe Valley

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley came out victorious in a high scoring affair against John Glenn, winning 15-14. The Lady Vikings are now 5-1 this spring.

Molly Moriarty had three hits in four at bats and drove in three runs. She couldn’t be stopped, hitting two home runs and a double. Abby Bowers and Brayden Baney both hit home runs as well.

The Lady Vikings also picked up a win Friday night, defeating Plymouth 23-7. Corinna Stiles had six RBIs.

Tippecanoe Valley hosts Culver Community Monday.

Fremont at Manchester

Manchester dropped both games of a double header against Fremont, Saturday, losing 11-9 and 22-3. The Lady Squires are now 1-3 this season.

Manchester gave up three runs in the top of the seventh in game one to allow for extra innings, where Fremont would eventually win.

Manchester plays its next game Tuesday at Adams Central.

Whitko at Columbia City

COLUMBIA CITY – Whiko dropped its nonconference matchup with Columbia City Friday night, losing 5-2. The Lady ‘Cats are 1-1 now this season.

Guinny Garr led the offense with two hits in three at bats with a run driven in.

Whitko hosts Carroll Monday evening.



Track

Manchester at Busco Relays

CHURUBUSCO – Manchester boys track finished second out of eight at the Busco relays Saturday, tallying 108 points, 50 more than the third place team.

Manchester hosts North Miami and Caston at a meet Monday.



Girls Tennis

Manchester/Warsaw at Warsaw Invitational

WARSAW – Warsaw finished in second place at the Warsaw Invitational Saturday. Manchester placed sixth.

Addie Lind had a great day for Warsaw, winning all three of her matches to be one of the five overall winners in the competition. Lind did not drop a set in any of her three matches. Abby Nicholas won her first two matches before falling in the finals.

For Manchester, Alyssa Marvel won her first match in straight sets before falling to Nicholas in round two.

Both teams play conference matches on Tuesday, with Warsaw hosting Plymouth and Manchester traveling to Maconaquah.
