Warsaw Edges Huntington North In Extra Innings

It would be Huntington North who would strike first as the Tigers’ starter Sam Justice struggled to find the control in the first inning. He would give up a couple of walks followed up by a single that would score two and give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
Warsaw would answer back in a big way, with Justice finding his rhythm and striking out two in the top of the second. In the bottom half of the frame, the Tiger offense would wake up in a big way. The team would score seven runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Josh Shapiro. Firing on all cylinders, the Tigers would take a 7-2 lead into the third.
Huntington North would not bow out, however. With Justice finding the zone, the Vikings would accumulate seven hits in the next two innings, resulting in seven runs. As quickly as the Tigers took the lead, they found themselves trailing by two once again.
The team would not trail long as it would manage to tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on second and third and two outs, Shapiro stepped up to the plate once again, this time hitting a slow roller to short. He was able to beat it out and drive home a run, and a throwing error allowed Lukas Maier to score all the way from second.
With 18 runs being scored in the first four innings, the players turned expectations on their heels in the next three innings, with pitchers from both sides allowing just one runner to cross the plate over the next three frames. All knotted up at 10, the two teams headed to extra innings to decide a winner.
After holding Huntington North scoreless in the top half of the eighth, the Tigers used the opportunity to snare the victory. With a runner in scoring position, Justice would deliver a base knock to win the seesaw affair.
Warsaw grabs its first win of the season and moves to 1-1. The Tigers have a quick turnaround, playing Friday night at Columbia City.
