The big classic rock and country concerts are returning to Central Park in Warsaw this summer after being cancelled the past two years due to the COVID pandemic.

Jefferson Starship headlines the free Classic Rockin’ for Riley rock concert, which starts at 6:30 p.m. June 17 on the Glover Pavilion stage; while Night Train recording artist Tyler Farr has the honors for the free Country Concert for St. Jude that kicks off at 6:30 p.m. July 22.

During the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Friday, Mayor Joe Thallemer said, “It should be a great summer for those concerts, plus we have our Blues & BBQ coming up and our weekly Friday Night Series, so the park will be alive on Friday nights at Central Park that’s for sure.”

He said he believed Farr has been a performer at the Warsaw Parks before, and Parks Superintendent Larry Plummer said that was correct.

Opening act for the rock concert is Roanoke at 6:30 p.m., with Jefferson Starship taking the stage at 8 p.m.

Jefferson Starship is “one of the most successful arena rock groups of the 1970s and ’80s, earning three platinum and eight old records, as well as numerous Top 40 singles. While Jefferson Starship continues to tour today, the band has experienced numerous lineup and personnel changes, and each of those members have contributed to the magic and alchemy that make Jefferson Starship iconic,” according to a news release from the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department.

The trailer for the movie “Matrix Resurrections” featured the hit single “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane, which later became Jefferson Starship.

Opening act for the country concert is Robyn Ottolini at 6:30 p.m. July 22, with Farr taking the stage at 8 p.m.

According to a news release provided by the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department, Farr was the first artist signed to Jason Aldean’s Night Train Records/BBR Music Group. The country-rocker, with three No. 1 songs to his credit - including “Redneck Crazy,” “Whiskey in My Water” and “A Guy Walks Into a Bar” - broke onto the scene with the 2013 release of his debut album “Redneck Crazy,” which landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200.

Farr’s platinum-selling title track “Redneck Crazy” projected Farr forward to celebrate back-to-back No. 1 singles, including his first No. 1 as a songwriter with his Platinum-certified hit “Whiskey in my Water,” the news release states.

His sophomore album, “Suffer In Peace,” followed suit, also making its debut in the Top 5 on both the Billboard Top 200 Albums and Billboard Country Albums Charts, leading Farr to become the only solo male country artist in the past decade to have their first two studio albums debut in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 Chart, the release states.

Farr, an opera-trained singer, toured with Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Luke Combs and Lee Brice.

Farr received his own reality series, “A Little Too Farr (Unscripted),” and is working on new music with Aldean serving as a producer, the release states. His newest single is “Cover Girl.”

Plan to come early, bring your lawn chair or favorite blanket and enjoy the evenings’ outdoor concerts.

Vendors will have snack foods and soft drinks to enjoy during the concert. Coolers are allowed but no alcohol or pets in the park at any time.

Glover Pavilion is at 225 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw.
