By Staff Report-

The board of directors of the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts announced Lakesha Green, of Syracuse, N.Y., as the next executive director of the umbrella arts organization.

Green was selected as the top candidate from more than 40 applications received for the position, according to a news release from the Wagon Wheel.

“We are pleased and excited at the prospect of working with someone with so many proven skills and track record in arts administration,” said Terry White, chair of the Wagon Wheel board. Board members Emily Illingworth Kosnik and Joni Truex chaired the search committee, along with other members of the search committee and executive committee.

Most recently, Lakesha Green has been director of youth programs coordinator at the Redhouse Arts Center in Syracuse, N.Y., where she worked with community groups, school districts and other nonprofit organizations to build community engagement and audience development for Redhouse.

She previously taught in public school systems as a theater arts director and spent 15 years as a theater arts director and arts and youth development director at All Walks of Life Inc., where she demonstrated solid organizational skills and excelled in securing funding for the arts and magnet programs.

Green, who holds a B.A. in theater arts from The Alabama State University and an MFA in media and performing arts from Savannah College of Art and Design, will be moving to the Warsaw/Winona Lake area in October to establish residence and to begin forming relationships in the community.

Regarding the opportunity, Green said, “I’m beyond excited to continue a rich legacy that will continue to inspire and create experiences for years to come. I’ve traveled all over this country and I must say that Warsaw is definitely a gem in the ocean. I look forward to being a part of this rich community.”

Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, now in its 66th year, has become the region’s premier location for professional theatre, arts education and community involvement, the news release states. Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts is home to the Wagon Wheel Professional Theatre, Wagon Wheel Community Theatre, Wagon Wheel Symphony of the Lakes, Wagon Wheel Jr., Wagon Wheel Conservatory and the Wagon Wheel Concert Series.

The organization’s next production is a Symphony of the Lakes Concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Winona Heritage Room.

More information about the organization may be obtained from its Facebook page or at https://www.wagonwheelcenter.org. Information will be forthcoming about a public-event opportunity to meet and get acquainted with the new executive director.
