Grace Women's Golf Ends Up 5th in Michigan

The four Grace scorers ended only five shots apart, led by Lucy Young, who posted rounds of 81 and 84 for a 165 total. Young tied for 14th individually. Summer Stillson was a shot back at 166, while Grace May had the best individual round for the Lancers with an 80, and totaled 168. Rebecca Hawes finished with a score of 170 and Carolyn Pacocha with a 173.
Sloane Winders shot an 81 on the first day, but was forced to withdraw because of an injury.
"We are honestly disappointed with our performance, but we see this time as an opportunity for growth," said Coach Denny Duncan. "We have some top players dealing with injuries, so others are having to step into leadership roles. We hope to have everyone completely healthy soon."
Bethel won the tournament with a team score of 629, followed by Mount Vernon Nazarene with a 644.
Grace competes next at the Bethel Invitational, played at the Harbor Shores Golf Club in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on October 4-5.

Grace Men's Golf Plays at Treetops
GAYLORD, Mich. - After a promising first round, the Lancers had a rough second day and finished 10th at the Lawrence Tech Invitational, played at the Treetops Golf Course in Gaylord, Michigan. Grace was just three strokes out of the top three spots after shooting a 297 on day one, but struggled to a score of 320 on the second day to post a final score of 617.
Blake Lawson shot a 72 in the first round and finished with a 77 to total 149 and end in a tie for 20th. Chase Byron posted a 74 on day one and finished at 154 and in a tie for 33rd. Other finishers for the Lancers included Payton Kelly at 157, Parker Wilburn at 159, Tristen Dubbs at 162 and Eric Haegeland at 170. Wilburn was the only Grace player to shoot better in the second round.
The Lancers were without top player Noah Wright this week.
Northwestern Ohio won the tournament with a team score of 564, followed by the hosts Lawrence Tech at 567.
Next up for Grace is the Bethel Invitational played at the Harbor Shores Golf Club in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on October 4-5.

Men's Tennis Advances to Semis
The Grace men's tennis team took care of business in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament, defeating Goshen 4-1 in a match played inside at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
The Maple Leafs of Goshen jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking two of the doubles matches, both by 6-3 scores. Grace then came back to dominate singles play, winning four contests to claim the match.
David Sandi won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Fabricio Galvan claimed the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-4. After Nicolas Doria won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, it was simply a matter of which match finished first to give Grace the overall victory. Ramiro Candia took the honors of clinching the match, coming back to win 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
The Lancers improve to 9-2 overall and advance to face Marian University in Indianapolis on Thursday.
