Hoover, who represented Ward 3, resigned Aug. 31, effective Sept. 30, as he’s moving to a different district. His term doesn’t expire until Dec. 31, 2023.
Cindy Kaiser, 64, filed with Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan on Friday. The deadline to file was 6 p.m. and the caucus is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Syracuse Town Hall.
Kaiser, who has lived on Medusa Street in Syracuse since 1985, said Hoover lives down the road from her and she knew he wouldn’t be able to continue serving. Several local people asked her to run for the Board seat.
She retired from Wawasee Community School Corporation in 2018. She had served as Milford School’s principal for 27 years and assistant principal for a few years before that. In total, she was a 39-year Wawasee employee.
“I just like to be active and I thought it might be time to give back with my education background,” Kaiser said in a telephone interview Friday afternoon. “I thought I’d fill out the rest of Tom’s term and we’ll see from there.”
As a principal, she said she is used to working on budgets and planning ahead.
“I’ve always been a leader and I hope to be a positive impact on the Council,” she stated.
She graduated from Wawasee High School in 1975 and from college in 1979.
Her husband, Brent, is retired and was a pharmacist at CVS in Syracuse and at Kroger’s in Warsaw. Both of her children went to Wawasee and live in Syracuse.
“I’m not getting on (the Board) for any particular issue,” she said, noting she’s a member of the Syracuse Lake Association and involved in Women of Today.
“I want to take those skills and help with the Town Council,” she said.
