She was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Leesburg, to Owen F. and Bertha Mae Evans Frederickson. They preceded her in death.
She grew up in Leesburg and graduated in 1954 without missing a day of school.
Byrd enlisted in the WACs where she served 22 years. This allowed her to see different countries throughout her career and she retired as a master sergeant. She moved to Wildwood, Ill., and worked in civil service until moving to Florida. She enjoyed her years there until moving back to Indiana to be near family.
She is survived by a brother, Art (Maxine) Frederickson, Goshen; two nieces: Angie (Carl) Yoder, Millersburg; and Lisa Gillis, Wakarusa; and a nephew, Craig (Samantha) Frederickson, Middlebury.
There will be one hour of visitation Friday, Sept. 17, prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
