SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night’s meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council approved an apprenticeship program through the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water for utilities employee Chris Craft.

Craft will receive an immediate $1-an-hour raise. Once the apprenticeship begins, Craft will receive an additional raise every six months as he completes more training.

In other old business, the council provided an update on Dale Burbank’s RV waiver request.

Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley spoke to the county about Bowman’s Landing, which is zoned as a nonconforming seasonal court. Burbank must first appeal to the county’s zoning board before approaching the town of Silver Lake for a waiver to bypass the existing RV ordinance.

In new business, the council approved a Hilltop Tree Service quote for $11,475. This amount covers services for trees in the park and around town.

A budget and retirement special meeting was set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire Chief John Conley reported six runs this month: one fire alarm, one medical assist, two traffic assists and two fire assists.

The claim docket was $91,733.42.

The council will next meet at town hall for a public budget hearing followed by a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 13.
