Such was the case in Tuesday evening’s Three Rivers Conference boys soccer match between the Manchester Squires and the host Tippecanoe Valley Vikings.
In near-perfect late summer conditions, barely a cloud in the sky, Manchester opened the flood gates on their hosts and stormed to an 8-1 win.
The Squires, now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play, got a goal from junior Michael Ortiz in the 14th minute of the 80-minute match.
They took complete control of the contest, however, by scoring their next five goals in a nine-minute span, taking a commanding 6-0 lead into halftime.
Senior Owen Kruschwitz, who led the way with four goals in all, scored in the 25th and 27th minutes, followed by goals from junior Liam York in the 28th and 30th minutes, and a goal from senior Ethan Cummins in the 34th minute.
The Vikings, who fell to 1-3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference action, scored their lone goal in the 73rd minute when senior Caleb Petgen converted a penalty kick.
Kruschwitz accounted for both of Manchester’s second-half goals, finding the net in the 54th and 61st minutes.
