He was born in Kendallville on July 2, 1926, the son of the late John and Fae Berkes.
Keith served in the U.S. Army during World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked at Commercial Motor Freight for 36 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Eagles Post #248 and First Assembly of God Church. Keith was an avid Colts fan and enjoyed Komets Hockey.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rosemary "Rosie" Berkes; children: Barbara (Mike) Henderson and Michael (Cherita) Swanson; Derek (Liz) Berkes, Ashely Hechler and Hayden Swanson; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Gary Robert and Logan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Holbrook Berkes; son, Keith Berkes Jr.; and seven siblings.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 with calling two hours prior at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne.
Burial will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
