NORTH WEBSTER – Bridge was played at SPEC at the North Webster Community Center.
On Tuesday, Jerry Hetrick came in first and Ronnie Pierog came in second.
The ABC Bridge Club Met
The ABC Bridge Club met at The Red Apple Restaurant with Edith Vitoux as hostess.
Winners were Virginia Horn and Joyce Latta.
Thursday Bridge Club Played
Winners for the Thursday Bridge Club at Marie’s Family Restaurant were Sharon Holtz, Elaine Tripp and Betty Walston.
Winona Lake Literary Club Met
WINONA LAKE – The Winona Literary Club met Wednesday at Robin Hood Community Center in Grace Village with 24 members and two guests present.
The featured entertainment was Gene Gossman, accordionist. He and his wife Ginny have been living at the Village just over a year. They moved from Florida, where they worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators for years. Gene started playing the accordion at the age of 11 and shared that at one time, the accordion was declared the “most popular instrument. The club enjoyed military anthems and patriotic songs, as well as hymns.
Phyllis Borkholder shared a book review from “Swan House” by Elizabeth Musser. The review goes with the club’s theme for the next meeting Oct. 20 when retired teacher Richard Rooker will share information on the Freedom Riders.
Hostesses were Mary Jane Schmitt and Nancy Wuthrich, providing nautical-themed placemats and refreshments.
Beta Zeta Met, Kicks Off Fall Fundraiser
The Beta Zeta chapter of Delta Theta Tau met Wednesday at Walnut Creek Church.
Brenda Arnold reported the Claypool Closet had several needs for school children.
Deb Webster gave member information about the fall butterbraid sale. There are 10 butterbraid choices. The braids are delivered frozen. To serve: thaw, let rise and bake.
The sorority added cake rolls to their sale this year. They are delivered frozen but have been baked so thaw and enjoy. The four cake roll flavors are chocolate, lemon, pumpkin and red velvet. All pastries and cake rolls are 22 ounces. Orders can be placed with members until Oct. 26. Delivery is in November in time for the holidays.
Marcia Randolph shared sewing projects that the sorority could sew for area nursing homes and other agencies.
Brenda Arnold, Jean Whitenack and Marcia Randolph plan to attend a Beta Province meeting this month in Indianapolis.
The Beta Zeta chapter of Delta Theta Tau philanthropic sorority is kicking off their fall fundraiser. This year, they are selling butterbraids, a pastry in several flavors that make a tasty breakfast item or dessert.
