Marilyn L. Hammersley, age 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at 2:20 p.m. at Parkview Hospital Randallia, Fort Wayne.

Born on Feb. 15, 1928, in Warsaw, Marilyn was the daughter of Henry J. and Leona Rody Schwierking.

She was a graduate of Warsaw High School, class of 1946, and continued her education at the International Business College in Fort Wayne, receiving a private secretarial degree. She was united in marriage to John E. Hammersley on June 13, 1953, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw, who passed away in 2013.

In her former years, she was a legal secretary and worked at the Lake City Bank and First National Bank in Warsaw. Marilyn was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Philanthropic Sorority. As the wife of an Indiana State Police officer, she always enjoyed the monthly gatherings with other ISP wives (Ligonier District) and the togetherness that they all shared. In her earlier years, she was active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw, including the choir and other activities.

Marilyn will be remembered by her two daughters: Anne M. Hammersley, of Fort Wayne; and Janis A. Sexton, of Ossian, as well as six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren and her brother-in-law, Donald G. Jellison, of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, John; an infant grandchild; her sister, Norma Jellison; and son-in-law, Donnie Sexton.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Rosary at 40 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 11 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Father Jonathon Norton will officiate. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

The family has requested that the public please use masks. No food is permitted at this time.
