DAR Members Learn About USS Arizona Bombing
October 1, 2021 at 11:05 p.m.
By Staff Report-
The program was given by Warsaw Community High School students Ryun Hoffert, Jason Benyouskey and Keller Bailey, who told of on an incident that happened when the USS Arizona was bombed at Pearl Harbor. Men who were trapped on the USS Arizona were rescued by Joe George, who threw a rope with an iron piece on the end to the men. The men were saved, but George was put into prison because the captain ordered him not to throw the rope (because the ship might explode).
Later, these WCHS students, along with Congressman Jim Banks and Joe George's family, helped secure a posthumous medal to honor George.
Regent Paula Holderman opened opening ritual for the business section with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, the recitation of the American's Creed and the Preamble of the Constitution.
The president general's message was read by Susan Creamer and the national defense report was given by Kathy Garthrop on Constitution Day.
The secretary’s report was given by Janice Engelberth and approved.
The next meeting will be at the Palette at Wyndham's Hotel on Oct. 26.
