Warsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek updated the Warsaw Library Board Monday on some maintenance work being done at the library.

Havel, a mechanical contractor, installed a new compressor for the HVAC system at the library at the end of October. The old compressor has been sent to the manufacturer. Zydek said library staff have not heard back from them whether the work would be under the warranty coverage.

Board member Jill Beehler asked what will happen if the work on the compressor was under warranty. Zydek said it will save the library about $15,000.

When the library started to use the heat, staff members noticed a small amount of steam coming from one of the boilers. There were three pinhole leaks in the boiler, Zydek said. New tubing to repair the leaks has been ordered.

The boiler has been taken off the system until it is repaired, she said. The library has another boiler that it switched to. The library can use either or both boilers to heat the library.

Zydek said the library is being cautious of what they’re spending money on for the rest of the year because there’s a couple things the library should encumber based on repair costs. Between the chiller and the boiler, the library is estimating the cost to be $15,000 to $30,000 to do the work, depending on how the warranty comes through.

In other business, library staff members were able to attend the TLCU 2021 Libraries Reimagined Virtual Conference Oct. 25-27. They were able to attend for $299, but Zydek said she wasn’t sure how many staff members actually attended the conference. Zydek said she found it worthwhile.

It was interesting to see what the conference’s solutions to technology was as how to do reports better, she said. There was a seminar called “How to talk to your IT department.”

In other business, the Board:

• Approved a holiday leave policy.

• Approved an American Rescue Plan Act Grant fund.

• Approved the computer usage and internet acceptable use policy.

• Learned the library is looking for a full-time position as head of the Community Outreach Department as Anna Jackson has moved to a part-time position.
