South Whitley Elementary To Honor Veterans

SOUTH WHITLEY – South Whitley Elementary School staff and students will celebrate Veterans Day with a parade and honor local veterans with a ceremony at the Eel River bridge flagpole at the corner of State and Wayne streets.

The parade is Thursday at 9:30 a.m., weather permitting, and will features class floats with a guest veteran, the Whitko Junior Senior High School marching band and choir members. Students from the high school will serve as an honor guard, standing along Wayne Street.

Community members, especially local veterans, are invited to bring a chair and watch the parade go by from SWES along Wayne Street, one block north on State Street and west on Mulberry Street on the route back to school.

The parade honors all veterans who served or are serving in all branches of the military, Coast Guard and related services. A short ceremony is planned at the flagpole and local veterans will participate in a wreath on the water ceremony off the Eel River bridge.

Organizers for the event include the Sunshine Committee members at South Whitley Elementary School and Whitko Junior Senior High School.
