WCS To Have Summer Food Service Program

Almost 50% of students enrolled at Warsaw Community Schools qualify for free or reduced meals. During the summer months, many of these children lose access to these meals. Due to the coronavirus, more families now face financial concerns due to unanticipated COVID-19 layoffs and loss of employment, according to a news release from WCS.
Now that school will soon be out for the summer, all children up through age 18 may continue receiving meals each Monday and Thursday beginning June 7 and ending July 29 at Edgewood Middle School. No meals will be served July 5. In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the USDA established a waiver to support access to nutritious meals while minimizing potential exposure to the coronavirus. This allows families to pick up three days of meals on Monday and four days of meals on Thursday. Children do not need to be present.
Families do not have to be on free or reduced benefits to receive these meals and children do not have to be enrolled at WCS. A one-time only registration is required to pick up meals. If a family has already registered for the meal pick-up or delivery, there is no need to register again. Meal pick-up times are each Monday and Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Edgewood Middle School, 900 S. Union St., Warsaw. Use the Logan Street entrance to the school. Lines may not begin forming prior to 12:30 p.m. due to bus traffic.
