A Warsaw woman is charged with fraud for allegedly using her husband’s grandmother’s debit card to help fund a move to Florida.

Ashley Renee Busenburg, 29, of 2702 E. CR 225S, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:45 p.m. Monday and charged with fraud and theft, both Level 6 felonies.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Feb. 15 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Jan. 14 a woman contacted the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office and said she believed her grandson and his wife, Busenburg, stole money using her debit card without her permission.

The woman said her grandson and Busenburg were moving to Florida and had created a Facebook fundraising page to solicit donations alleging their accommodations fell through and they were desperate for money, according to the affidavit.

The woman told police she used her debit card and authorized a charge of $85 to Busenburg’s fundraiser.

However, the woman said shortly after donating, there were a number of unauthorized purchases using her debit card.

According to court papers, there were 14 charges from “FB pay Ashley Horn” for a total amount of $1,366.35 and at least two of those transactions were made in Florida, where the two were allegedly stuck with no way home.

Busenburg’s bond was set at $4,000. No charges had been filed against the woman’s grandson as of Tuesday afternoon, according to court records.
