NEW HAVEN - Field events made the difference in the Warsaw Tigers girls’ track and field team’s first place team finish in the New Haven Invitational Saturday. The Tigers finished the day with 146 points followed by Leo (118.5), Huntington North (98), and Carroll (96).

Warsaw scored 53 total points in field events to runner-up Leo’s 23.5 points to edge the Lions’ slight scoring advantage among running events

Notable performances among the strong field event showing included: first place, Martin Hart (high jump 5-4), Josie Niebbia (pole vault 9-0), second place Abby Sanner (shot put 35-0, discus 106-4).

Carroll used middle- and long-distance strength to give the Warsaw a run for its money, particularly scoring first through third place finishes in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs, and a first place in the 800-meter run.

Hart also earned a win for the Tigers in the 100m hurdles (16.61), and the orange and black 400m relay took the prize with a 52.06 finish.

Second place finishes included Lillian Boston (100m 13.43) and Erika Bugg (400m 1:04.32).

Third place Tiger finishes included Ema Jenkins (400m 1:05.43), Mikayla Mimnaugh (300H 51.90), Bugg (long jump 15-5.25) and the 1600-meter relay team (4:30.81)

Warsaw capitalized on team depth with 13 athletes adding 38 team points among fourth through eighth place finishes.

The Tigers travel to New Haven again next Saturday for the Bulldog Relays starting at 10:00 a.m.
