A Warsaw man is facing charges after allegedly stealing items from a vehicle and trying to break in to others nearby.

Cory Allen Martin, 33, of 111 S. Wood St., Apt. A, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:23 p.m. Saturday and is facing charges for theft, a Level 6 felony; and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed March 17 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Jan. 24 Warsaw police spoke with a man who said when he came out of his home, he noticed the trunk of his vehicle was open and a $1,500 guitar was missing, along with insurance papers, bank receipts and the owner’s manual.

Police searched the area and allegedly found the vehicle’s registration paperwork along with a bag containing jumper cables.

According to court papers, police spoke with a neighbor who provided home video surveillance footage and in the footage police observe two people carrying the bag of jumper cables, put the bag in the dumpster and then try to break into other vehicles, but unsuccessfully. The people in the video footage are then seen walking in the direction of an area where a vehicle was recently reported stolen and had been crashed in Wabash County where Martin was the suspect.

Police then received information that a vehicle was being towed and the occupant was Martin.

Police went to Martin’s residence to speak to him about the situation, and according to the affidavit, found Martin unresponsive in a bedroom.

Officers and EMS provided treatment to Martin before taking him to Kosciusko Community Hospital, according to the affidavit, but while they were in Martin’s bedroom, police allegedly observed the stolen guitar.

Martin’s bond was set at $5,250.
