By Staff Report-
The Strong Public Schools for Strong Communities collaborative will host an invitation-only event at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center. Elkhart, St. Joseph, Marshall and Kosciusko counties will be represented by mayors, chamber members, business executives, nonprofits, community officials and leaders, according to a news release from Strong Public Schools for (4) Strong Communities.
Representatives and educators from the region’s 24 school districts have been invited. While recent legislative initiatives in Indiana are considered as educations bills, community leaders understand their potential impact on the growth of local and state economy.
This one-hour event will feature economist Michael Hicks, Ph.D., the Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State University. Hicks will address the important connections between investing in education and communities experiencing educational attainment and economic growth. Calling the state an “outlier” relative to other states in the underfunding of education, Hicks notes that unfortunately Indiana has “neglected” local public schools within recent school choice priorities.
A four-county declaration has been affirmed by superintendents, mayors, chamber members and business leaders across the four Northern Lakes Conference counties. The event will culminate in an invitation to sign this collaborative collective community declaration by those attending.
This collaborative event, coordinated by Strong Public Schools for (4) Strong Communities, is a grassroots effort to inform, educate and show support for local public schools and communities.
