BOURBON - The Triton Trojans’ season ended in the title game of the Class 1A boys’ regional tournament on Saturday.

Kouts, with a record of 27-2 after the win, took care of Triton 56-42.

The Trojans looked like momentum was in their favor after beating Caston 64-52 in double overtime in the semi-finals Saturday morning but were unable to handle the Kouts’ twin set of twins, the Wiremans (Cole and Cale) who entered the game averaging 41 points, and the Kneifels (Parker and Hunter), who scored 44 of of Kouts’ 56 points

Triton led 12-9 after the first quarter but the Mustangs took advantage of their height on the offensive glass in a 21-7 second period for a 30-19 halftime lead.

Kouts finished the third period with its largest lead, 40-25, before closing out the contest winning the final frame 16-14 to hoist the regional championship trophy.

The Mustangs will meet Southwood (17-10) in the Lafayette Jefferson semi-state next Saturday afternoon.

Tyson Yates led the runners-up with 19 points while Ashton Oviedo scored only nine points following his 33-point performance against Caston. John Gardner added six points, Bruce Johnson chipped in with five points, and Cole McKinney rounded out the scoring with three points.

The Trojans, who were outrebounded by the Mustangs 32-21 including a 13-3 offensive rebound edge, end their season with a 20-6 record, a Hoosier North Athletic Conference co-championship, and a sectional title.
